How I came to concrete work in Brandon

I got into concrete on the sales side, writing up bids and walking homeowners through them. I kept asking why each step mattered, so I moved onto a crew and learned the work from the ground up, from digging out and packing the base to the pour and the finish. In 2020 I started Advanced Brandon Concrete Construction here in Brandon to build driveways, patios and slabs, and to explain them the way I wanted them explained to me.

Concrete cures slowly, it can crack, and it's only as good as the ground under it. I'd rather you hear that from me at your property than find it out a year later. Brandon sits farther from the coast than Tampa, so we usually get a few nights below freezing each winter, and I keep that in mind when we plan a pour. You can see the work we do on our home page, and when you're ready, tell us about your project.

How we handle your concrete job

These are the things you'll notice from the first visit to the day you walk on your new slab. They come from how I learned this trade, by asking why.

  • We explain the job before we start

Before anyone digs, I walk you through what your driveway or patio needs, from the subgrade, which is the packed ground the slab sits on, to the control joints we cut so cracks have a straight place to go. You'll know what you're paying for and what to expect while the slab cures and hardens after the pour.

  • An estimate written out line by line

Your free estimate is itemized, so you can see what's included and lay it next to other bids fairly. If one bid comes in much lower, the base work is usually the first thing cut, and it's the part I won't skimp on because nobody sees it until the slab starts to settle.

  • One person from first visit to finish

I come out to look at every job myself and stay your contact until the work is done. On pour day our lead finisher runs the crew, and I check in on site while the work is going on.

  • Permits sorted out for you

When a job needs a permit, we pull it as the licensed contractor and handle the paperwork. We first check which office covers your address, since that depends on where your property sits, and for most Brandon homes that's Hillsborough County.

Licenses and rules for concrete work here

  • Licensed and insured

Licensed and insured. In Florida, anyone seeking a certified contractor license has to pass a state exam and show four years of experience, or college combined with experience, so it's worth asking any contractor you're considering about their license.

  • County business tax receipt

Hillsborough County requires a business to get a local business tax receipt from the county tax collector before doing business here. It's a simple sign that a contractor is set up to work in the county.
